Seeing Disclosure on a Monday Night

When my friends reached out and asked if I was interested in grabbing tickets to see Disclosure on a Monday night in Austin, I immediately thought hell no. As a Corporate America baddie, going to a rave on a Monday night was not something I was interested in doing. But alas, I was convinced and boy am I glad that I went. Which begs the question...why do we not go to more raves on Monday nights?

Disclosure performed in Austin on a Sunday and Monday night. So brave of them. We made the long trek out to the Concourse Project, a modern indoor and outdoor music venue in Austin. It's by the south terminal of the airport in Austin which can feel like you're driving to no mans land. But once you get there, it's a great time.
If you've ever been to Concourse, you know it's the best place to catch an EDM show in Austin. It's a giant warehouse with bars on both sides. There is also an upstairs viewing area. We started there so we could grab a drink at the bar up there with no line and gab a bit.
Disclosure is composed of two brothers, Guy and Howard Lawrence, who transitioned from live instrumentation to DJ sets and became "Disclosure". They grew up with professional musician parents. Their father played in rock bands and their mother, a session musicisan, fronted bands touring on cruises. She was one of the first performers to entertain the British Army after their recapture of the Falkland Islands.
Both brothers started playing instruments at a very young age and went on to attend Reigate College. During their time at Reigate, both brothers studied music and music technology. I can see why they both were interested in classical music at first due to the history with their parents, but both brothers came to love dubstep and hiphop as they became older.
They started copying songs they would hear when they were out in their father's auction house and would upload it to Myspace. This landed them an early record deal, a UK tour, and occasional DJ sets. They then were signed to Method Management, which helped them make their first big hit, Latch. If you didn't know- the singer on Latch is Sam Smith.
They said they "write pop songs" and would rather emphasize writing songs than just making beats. I was interested to see how the show has changed since they decided to resort back to more traditional DJing instead of a heavy gear set-up they have done in the past.
It was a completely sold out show at the Concourse Project and the group was a perfect mix of all kinds of EDM fans. There were some young college kids, men in their 70's and other corporate baddies trying to survive the show in time for their 9 AM calls in the morning. Their set included remixes of their popular songs as well as originals you didn't want to miss (like Latch of course). The duo is known for making music that is UK garage adjacent and was nominated in 2014 for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the Grammys.

Their stop in Austin was nothing short of a great time, and may I say, a great way to spend a Monday night.
